Can you believe that summer already is right around the corner? Neither can we but we are currently preparing to bring you and your family a number of programs and special events to keep you busy throughout the months ahead. Vinton Parks and Recreation Department's summer registration is officially underway for sport programs, playground, swim lessons and pre-season discounted pool passes.

VINTON GARDEN CLUB ANNUAL PLANT AND BAKE SALE               Wow, what a spring we've been having.    The flowering trees, bushes and spring bulbs have had awesome color because of our mild winter.    The perennials started growing in March with the warm weather so now some of them are blooming before they normally do.

PEO Chapter MZ will meet at 1:30 PM on Monday, April 23, at the home of Brenda Hackbarth assisted by Jackie Schoettmer.

  Vinton Unlimited, the combined chamber of commerce & economic development group for the Vinton community will be holding their annual meeting on Friday, April 13th beginning at 6:00 pm. During the meeting, the Board of Directors along with Executive Director, Nathan Hesson, will present a recap of some of the accomplishments over the course of 2011 and look forward to a few of the exciting opportunities coming up in 2012 Following the business meeting portion of the evening, Vinton Unlimited will have the opportunity to welcome 1977, Vinton-Shellsburg graduate Kris Gulick as the key note speaker.

    Sunday Night Live, a time of fellowship with good gospel music, will be held at the Blessed Hope Church this Sunday evening, April 15th beginning at 6:00 pm.    Joining Blessed Hope Church will be members of the Prairie Creek Church and the Brandon Church of Christ.    Everyone is welcom

  The Vinton Garden Club plant and bake sale will be held at the fairground building on Friday April 20th from 5:00 p.m.- 6:30 p.m.

  The Vinton Lutheran Home Auxiliary Spring Salad Luncheon will take place on Friday April 13th at the US Bank Community Room from 11:00am-1:00pm. Please join them for homemade casseroles, salads and pies. The cost per person is $6.00. A baked goods and craft sale will also open at 9:00am.   All proceeds raised will go towards purchasing a television for the Memory Care Unit and Assisted Living, a Robot Food Coupe Processor, and a counter top food warmer.

Area residents who want to help create better housing for people in poor countries can do so by eating baked potatoes in Brandon on April 22. The Brandon United Methodist Church plans an event at 12:15 p.m. that Sunday.    Baked Potato Bar Includes Beverages & Dessert Sunday, April 22 12:15 pm Cost:  Free Will Donation   Proceeds go to support the Brandon/Garrison/Stewart Memorial United Parish   “RAISE THE ROOF” Parish Mission Project benefiting the United Methodist Committee on Relief's efforts in U.

BASH, a free event for Brandon area families, will take place at the Brandon United Methodist Church on April 25. University of Iowa Community Credit Union is sponsoring the Vinton citywide garage sales the last weekend of April,  April 27th and 28th.  Please register your sale with the local credit union office located at 412 1st Ave Vinton.   A garage sale kit will be supplied to you along with being listed in our map of sales which will be distributed the weekend of the sale.
